The Exposition repeat - Yes or No? & why the change in attitude ?


Hi all,
Just curious as to if anyone has any individual preferences when it comes to choosing whether or not to repeat the exposition theme in say a symphony movement?
Also,why has there been a shift in attitude whereby today it is viewed as optional with many interpreters opting yes.
Though previously the school of thought for conductors was generally not to.
For example two of my favourite recordings Rafael Kubelik's mighty Dvorak No.9(1975 recording I think)) which omits them and Leonard Bernstein's Mozart No.40(1984) which observes them.

So to digress:
Do they add or detract from the composition?
Does anyone find them annoying and unnecessary,
or would it depend precisely on the work in hand?

Your thoughts as always are much appreciated.

I guess that am of the conservative tradition with regard to this, "option"-?.

In my perspective, the composer indicated these from his own sense of in what way, and how, it should be interpreted. To ignore a repeat, is to insult his genius: it my opinion, "sacrilegious".

Arturo Toscanini always strictly adhered to the composers every notation, which was one reason(among others)he was considered, as I do, probably the greatest conductor of the 20th century.

Bottom line: in general, they add to the composition.

In an ideal world, the British media would have concentrated on Andy's meteoric rise in the last 2 years; his massive development in fitness, his game and his temperament; his great results in that time and his ability to beat the likes of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic.

There is a mindset in Britain that we expect to be the best. That notion has long since evaporated. This is why when Murray, Henman, Hamilton and others failed, they were lambasted. To reach the last four at Wimbledon, or to be the Formula 1 champion requires hours and hours of hard work, sacrifice and dedication. And the British media show that no respect whatsoever.

Ok that Nationwide race in Montreal was AWESOME!!!! But you have to feel for Marcos Ambrose. He had that race in the bag but made a mistake. Another thing that puzzled me was NASCAR throwing a caution for like every incident. And those cars looked like they went to Bristol or Martinsville. And what was up with Steven Wallace wrecking every 3 seconds. I mean he crashed more times in that race more than Kyle Busch's comlaints, Dave Blaney's 43rd place finishes and John Wes Townly's wrecks combined! Ok so what are your opinions on that race?

I thought it was an entertaining race. It really got interesting when the teams switched over to their rain tires. I got really frustrated after every caution because it would take around 10 minutes to get the green again. Steven Wallace seemed to be involved in all of the final 7 or so cautions. They couldn't run more than 2 or 3 laps under green because Wallace would wreck. I felt bad for Ambrose but you have to give major credit to Carl Edwards. Edwards pressured one of the best road racers into making a mistake. Ambrose almost never makes a mistake but he finally did today.

The texture you are talking about is called a "Luster" finish. Some places also call it a "Mat" finish. When you place your order select this as the paper type and you will be fine.

I've thought about painting one wall red, and one blue, leaving the other two white. I'm not real crafty, so I need to come up with something easy.

You could make the walls blue, carpet red and the trim white.

You could make the walls blue, curtains red and the trim white.
if you didn't want to change the carpeting.

You could do white walls, and the sponge red and blue stars all over the white walls.

Or if he is really patriotic, You could paint the walls white, and then duplicate the American Flag across the longest wall. and the rest of the walls white.

What converter do I need to plug in coaxial cable to my TV which doesn't have coax but only Red, White, Yellow. I have a cable box in one room, but only coax in my bedroom. I don't want to get another cable box and pay rent.

Are there any converters available. If so please let me know.

Some VCRs or DVD recorders have cable tuners, which will get any unencrypted analog channels on the cable - which, depending on the system, there may or may not be any unencrypted analog channels.

Only other option is a video sender from your cable box.
