Bowling ball finger tips?
i bowled in a tournament today and this guy bowling next to me had very small finger holes. they didnt have the rubber inserts and i was wondeing if anyone knew what this was called
yes i know what the finger tip inserts are i was just wondering why this guy didnt have them in and had his fingers holes smaller than a regular finger tip ball.
It's just a matter of feel and choice. Bowlers of all skill levels use the finger grips for softness, lift, snugness, additional grip and comfort to avoid callouses and blisters. Some bowlers enjoy the "old school" feel of the drilled out finger holes without grips.
I bowl without grips for fingers for that pure feel, but have a thumb slug, which is a solid piece of rubber or plastic inserted into the drilled thumbhole then drilled out to match my thumb's measurements. That's because I tend to grip harder and the slug prevents "thumb splits" or blisters.
The bowler you described probably has a "full fingertip" span. The reason his finger holes were probably smaller was that he prefers a snugger fit to hold on without using a "death grip" on the ball. You can also use grips and slugs for semi fingertip or relaxed fingertip, which I bowl with.
You can have your thumb and finger holes drilled any way you want, with or without slugs or grips. It's just a matter of comfort for your hand and game.
