Old quilt questions and information?
I have a few old quilts given to me by my sons great great grandma...anyway..it looks like handpicked cotton for batting and red, white and blue colors and very old in appearance which also is hand stitched. It has prints of old feedbag sacks on the back that reads: ROLLER MILLS DANVIILLE,KY ANDERSON AND SPILMAN Fulton Bags Atlanta 100 LBS. (NET WHEN PACKED). and something about using SNOWFLAKE FLOUR. How do I get it appraised? What could it be worth? Who would I take it to? Does anyone know anything about ROLLER MILLS in Danville, Ky? Any info would be awesome! Thanks in advance
start with your local civil war society, call your local museum, a local college with a history dept. my guess is authentic underground railroad stuff though....

What are some tips for painting a room?
I'm painting my room this summer, but I want to get all my necessary supplies ASAP, which means I need some advice. I've painted walls once; we were painting them white, so I don't really think it counts. Now, I want to color my one wall red, one wall blue, one wall green, and one wall white. The colors I'll be painting over are light pink and light purple. Also, one wall has a texture on it (We painted it, put garbage bags over it, and took them off; voila). If I paint over that, will the wall still be textured? If so, how do I get rid of it?
So basically:
- Any advice
- What will happen to my textured wall?
- Rollers or brush?
First- Your going to want to prime your walls with white primer first. Rather be safe than sorry. Its going to cost you an extra twenty bucks for a gallon of primer, but think about it like this. If the walls dont turn out right (which they probably wouldnt without primer) Then youd have to prime them and buy more paint, so you might as well just prime them to begin with. When I painted my blue room purple a long time ago, the purple looked great for a while but eventually the blue color started to fade through. Not that bad for purple and blue, but the colors you are painting would look bad if the pink and purple seeped through.
Secondly- Yes, the texture will probably show up, your better off sanding it down to begin with. As the other answerer suggested, cover your carpet and electrical sockets with plastic and either get an electrical sander or use one of the box shaped things with sandpaper over them. Only lightly sand or you will mess up the drywall. You MAY not have to sand depending on how thick the texture is, because the primer and paint may be thick enough to cover it. Ask your parents or the guy at the paint store, theyd be able to tell you, because why waste time sanding if you dont have to?
And lastly, Always use a roller. A brush will look terrible in the end, and a roller gives off a nice flat surface. Also, Always ventilate, keep your windows open, and run a fan if possible. Dont sleep in your room the day you prime or paint. Sleep on the couch or in the guest room. Even with the windows open its still not safe to sleep in a room with wet paint.
