What are the different types of bowling balls? More specifically what are they made of?

I'm a right handed bowler whom has a tendency to throw from the right part of the lane about 3/4th's the way down, then hooks it in the pocket. That's if everything goes right...hehe. Anyway, what type of ball would be right for my type of playing style. I use an Aftershock, but I dont know what it's made of or anything. Thanks for your help.

Any bowling ball will basically travel the outside line that you usually bowl. I use a Brunswick Red Zone, polished Brunswick Ultimate Inferno and a Morich Awesome Finish. They go straight about 3/4 downlane with a massive move into the 1-3 pocket. I use about medium revolutions and a 14 mph. speed, which works just fine.

I'd say that your bowling ball either has a reactive resin or particle coverstock. If it's drilled strong, it will have a difficult time travelling straight outside because it may have a high hook rating. If you keep the coverstock highly polished, you'll have much success with your game.

Good luck!

what's the best way to clean and degreage my bowling balls?

There are numerous ways. It all depends on your ball.

I like to use rubbing alcohol on mine. Its cheap and it sucks the oil right out. Natural or synthetic. Just apply a bit to a terrycloth and rub until your ball feels dry to the touch. To speed up the cleaning process, place in a warm area to help "milk" the oil out. I leave mine in front of a vent, and it keeps the ball from becoming saturated.

You can also go to a pro-shop and purchase cleaning agents for your ball. Theres specific kinds for each kind of coverstock, and your proshop owner can help you pick the best for your ball. Sometimes, companies even make special cleaners to achieve specific results for your ball.

And lastly, if you want to just get the surface like new, use a ball cleaning machine at your local center. Its cheap, quick, and most consistent.

I worked in a bowling alley for a few years, and each person has found out ways to clean their ball that best meets their needs.

Sometimes all it needs is a good wiping for light use. Other times, you really need to invest in high quality cleaner to use after every 6-12 games. More or less depending on lane conditions.

A good hint to know when to clean your ball, is when you can't wipe the "track" off. If you get to that point, its time to sit down and clean it.
