Bowling Ball Weight Hole

What weight bowling ball should I be using? ?
I recently joined a league, and decided that it was best to buy a ball instead of using the house balls. I use a 10-11lbs house ball, but someone recommended I use 12lbs since it will feel lighter because the finger holes will be made to fit me. Is this a true statement?
If you really are serious about joining a league and bowling in general, it's a great idea purchasing a bowling ball for your own fit and comfort. Regarding the weight of your initial ball purchase, it's a matter of how you feel when using the house balls. Since the holes don't fit perfectly, it's difficult to find out what's right because house ball holes are either too big or too small, the span may be too wide or narrow, but not in between like when you have a pro shop measure your fingers and hand. For instance, if you use a lighter 13 lb. bowling ball, purchasing a higher weight 13 lb. ball would get lighter when the thumb and finger holes are drilled out. Same goes with any other weight because a matter of ounces do make the difference between a too heavy or too light bowling ball.
What type of release do you have? If you are using a lighter bowling ball with a palm release (no thumb, two fingers, massive revolutions and hook), then I'd say 12 lbs. so that you will not really suffer much discomfort with that aggressive release. If you are using thumb and fingers, then see if 13-14 lbs. would work. Bowling is not about "killing" the pins with speed because even slower speed bowlers are able to utilize lots of pin action with lighter balls due to the advanced coverstock and core combinations that bowling balls have.
If you hook the ball, then you can purchase a simple urethane or reactive urethane coverstock ball. If you throw the ball straight, then plastic or polyester will work until you get the hang on how to throw a hook. Good luck!

How do I make on old bowling ball look new again?
I bought an old house ball at a thrift store for 3 dollars that is a great weight and the holes are located perfect for my small hand size, but it looks like it was shot out of a tank. Is there any way to have it look new again and get the old writting off?
If you take it to a pro shop they will tell you that they probably will not fix it. If they would you would have to have it cleaned, resurfaced, probably fill some gashes, umong other things and it would total around fifty dollars. To get your own ball costs around sixty, so this is why they would tell you no...not trying to make a quick sell (because they do not make much off of the 60 dollar plastic balls) but trying to get you a reliable ball. you can save the other ball as decoration maybe?
