Bowling Ball Standards

Why are there so many different terms for similar spin deliveries?
There are only a limited number or deliveries a spin bowler can bowl (Spin the normal way, spin the other way or top spin delivery) And yet there seem to be an unlimited number of names for the deliveries
ie: googly, chinaman, wrongun, doosra, flipper, arm ball etc
why can't there be a standard term that covers each of the options to stop confusion for commentators?
ie: googly, chinaman, wrongun, doosra, flipper, arm ball etc
There's about 3 reasons I'm aware of. Firstly it's because with the exception of the googly and wrongun, each of the above IS different - and that is the beauty of the craft of spin!
The 2nd reason is that the terms for the same delivery were different based on where you lived. The googly or bosie are English terms for the googly whereas the Australians tended to call a googly a wrongun. The chinaman is just a left handed googly.
The 3rd reason though is that bowler's "invent" names for their deliveries to confuse the batsmen. Shane Warne made a living in his twilight years out of getting batsmen with straight deliveries - his 'slider" and "zooter" - I doubt there was any difference between the two, in fact IMO they were just flippers that he didn't have to bother ripping anymore ie. they had a little gentle backspin just to ensure they hit below the kneeroll. Warne's reputation did the rest!
Last point - Authur Mailey the Aussie leggie and cartoonist from the 1920's in his book "10 for 66 and all that" described spin as an art form and art is international (this was his justification to telling his captain Warrick Armstrong to naff off when he discussed leggies with his English opposite Fleetwood-Smith) so don't try and standardise spin anymore than we would want to standardise art - just embrace it with its eccentricities and quirky names!
